    Function / Position Summary
    The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level in support of the organization’s goals. This position will focus on managing benefit time-off allotments and serving as the liaison for the Red Rover Absence Management System. This role ensures accurate tracking of leave balances, assists employees with benefit-related inquiries, and collaborates with payroll and other departments to maintain compliance with policies and regulations. A strong emphasis is placed on providing excellent customer service by delivering timely, accurate, and supportive assistance to employees regarding their time off allotment inquiries.
     
    • Administer and monitor employee benefit day allotments, ensuring accurate allocations, accruals, and usage.
    • Support the Absence Management System, including troubleshooting issues and assisting certified staff with leave requests.
    • Maintain accurate records of employee absences and generate reports as needed.
    • Process and track leave requests, including those adjacent to holidays or school recesses, ensuring compliance with district policies.
    • Process jury duty payments and handle other absence-related administrative duties.
    • Report unused sick days to Payroll for submission to the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) and the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
    • Provide training and ongoing support to end users of Red Rover, ensuring employees and administrators understand system functionality and processes.
    • Generate and provide benefit allotment data reports as requested by the HR Administration team.
    • Conduct fingerprinting as needed for new hires and other designated staff.
    • Provide outstanding customer service by responding promptly and professionally to employee questions and concerns.
    • Collaborate with payroll and HR teams to ensure accurate leave deductions and compliance with labor laws.
    • Assist with the implementation and communication of changes to absence management policies and benefits.
    • Assist with processing and completion of verification of employment (VOE) requests in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of employment details, including dates of employment, position, and salary information.
    • Assist with the onboarding process for new hires, including processing paperwork, conducting orientations, and ensuring completion of state-mandated training.
    • Assist in ensuring district compliance with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) regulations, labor laws, and collective bargaining agreements.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
     
    Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
     
    Experience / Knowledge
    • Two years of HR experience, preferably in a public-school district or government setting.
    • Knowledge of Illinois labor laws, TRS/IMRF retirement systems, and school district policies preferred.
    • Experience with HRIS and absence management systems (Red Rover, Frontline, or similar) is a plus.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide outstanding customer service to employees and stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs Sheets, Slides, Drive, Calendar, Meet and more) and HR software.
    • Bilingual – English/Spanish – (written/verbal) preferred.
     
    Physical Demands
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Frequent standing and walking within an office environment and occasionally to other district locations.
    • Occasional lifting and carrying of materials, files, or office supplies (typically up to 25 pounds).
    • Ability to perform repetitive hand movements and fine motor tasks, such as typing, using a mouse, and handling paperwork.
    • Visual acuity to read documents, spreadsheets, and computer screens for extended periods.
    • Hearing and speech abilities to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in virtual meetings.
    • Occasional travel to school sites or off-site meetings may be required.
    Terms of Employment
    • This is a 12 month position. 
    • Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education
    Additional Information: 
    The salary range for this position is $54,752.00 - $82,139.00. It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($68,457.00).
